After battling some injuries during his breakout rookie season, Jakob Chychrun says he will be ready to go for next season.
The injuries have also forced him to miss Hockey Canada’s Under-18 Selection Camp in Alberta, and the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
The defenceman missed 26 regular season games and all five playoff games.
Despite the injury, Chychrun was named an OHL Third Team All Star, and was a nominee for both rookie of the year, and defenceman of the year. He was also Sarnia’s nominee for the Red Tilson Trophy as the league’s most outstanding player.
Chychrun says recovery has been going well since having shoulder surgery at the end of the season.
He says he’ll be healed and ready to go for the start of the season.
Looking back on his rookie season, Chychrun says he learnt a lot, and was thrilled when the team named him an assistant captain, a leadership role he did not take lightly.
Chychrun scored 16 goals and 17 assists in 42 games.
