AOHL This Week

Around The OHL This Week (October 6)

Week 2 Power Rankings:

  1. Erie Otters (LW:3)– Undefeated, and Dylan Strome is back. The rich get richer
  2. Barrie Colts (LW:1) – Blackwood has been getting peppered with shots, but Colts still stand strong
  3. Owen Sound Attack (LW:7) – Scorers have shown up, and McNiven has been a rock
  4. Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (LW:5) – Just about everyone on their top two lines is near a point per game, even with McCann still with Vancouver
  5. Windsor Spitfires (LW:13) – Better than expected, newcomer Giugovaz and rookie Dipietro form strong tandem in net
  6. London Knights (LW:2) – Leading the league in goals for, but 17 against is a red flag
  7. Mississauga Steelheads (LW:11) – Better than their record, with a +8 goal differential, and losses were all close
  8. Kitchener Rangers (LW:15) – Off-season concerns remain, they’re shutting opponents down, but must find some scoring
  9. Flint Firebirds (LW:8) – May have most improved player and top rookie in Bowman and Saarijarvi
  10. Oshawa Generals (LW:6) – Brodeur has been a standout in net, and the return of Dal Colle gives them punch
  11. Sarnia Sting (LW:12) – King and Chychrun have been great, rest of D corps needs to catch up
  12. Peterborough Petes (LW:9) – Followed hot start by losing two straight then barely beating a struggling Niagara team
  13. Kingston Frontenacs (LW:10) – The same hot-cold team as they’ve been the past two years, at least Crouse returns
  14. Niagara Ice Dogs (LW:4) – Another slow start to the year, the IceDogs will again be looking for a safety net in goal
  15. Hamilton Bulldogs (LW: 14) – Stephen Harper has found his game, dominating at two points per game
  16. Saginaw Spirit (LW:17) – Simply not scoring enough to compensate for a weak defence
  17. Ottawa 67’s (LW:16) – 9 goals for, 17 against. Hands should be slowly reaching for the panic button
  18. Sudbury Wolves (LW:19) – Levin has been as advertised, but the supporting cast has a long way to go
  19. North Bay Battalion (LW:18) – Only 1 point from Amadio is a problem for team that was already offensively challenged
  20. Guelph Storm (LW:20) – Justin Nichols has been great, but would have to be super human to save this team

Biggest Rise: Windsor Spitfires (Up 8)
Biggest Drop: Niagara IceDogs (Down 10)

Games To Watch:

Wednesday October 7:
Flint @ Sault Ste. Marie – A real chance for Flint to prove they’re for real in the West Division against a hot Greyhounds team

Friday October 9:
Mississauga @ Kingston – Lawson Crouse will likely be making his season debut against a strong Steelheads team

Windsor @ Kitchener – Both teams are looking to legitimize their hot starts, and establish themselves as a top team in the Western Conference

Niagara @ Erie – Dylan Strome will look to rekindle his magic with Alex DeBrincat in his season debut, DeBrincat scored five against the IceDogs last week without Strome

Saturday October 10:
London @ Owen Sound – Owen Sound has a great defence, but can’t score. London has a great offence, but has struggled defensively. Both teams are (currently) undefeated in regulation. This game has the potential to be great
