Around the OHL This Week (October 13)

Week 3 Power Rankings:

  1. Erie Otters (1) – At 6-0 the Otters are on top again this week
  2. London Knights (6) – Averaging five goals a game so far, scoring not an issue in London again this year. Parsons hitting his stride
  3. Windsor Spitfires (5) – The only team that has been able to beat them is Erie
  4. Oshawa Generals (10) – Brodeur picked up his fourth shut out of the season
  5. Sarnia Sting (11) – Seven of their eight games have been decided by one goal, great experience for young team on the rise
  6. Kitchener Rangers (9) – Have yet to lose in regulation with all three losses coming in extra time
  7. Kingston Frontenacs (13) – Continue to play low scoring hockey, but are winning. Will receive major boost when Louse returns from suspension
  8. Barrie Colts (2) – Still giving up too many shots, outscored 9-1 over two games last weekend
  9. Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (4) – Looked unimpressive in losses to Saginaw and North Bay
  10. Owen Sound Attack (3) – Nice win against London
  11. Flint Firebirds (8) – A pair of losses on the weekend but Nedeljkovic’s return is great news
  12. Ottawa 67’s (17) – Winners of four straight after beating three pretty good teams over the weekend (Oshawa/Barrie/Owen Sound)
  13. Peterborough Petes (12) – Garlent helped the Petes pick up four out of six points during Western swing
  14. Mississauga Steelheads (8) – starting to level out after impressive start offensively
  15. Niagara Ice Dogs (14) – Up and down start continues, followed up impressive win over Barrie with a lackluster performance in loss to Erie
  16. North Bay Battalion (18) – After slow start three straight wins has the Battalion back to .500
  17. Hamilton Bulldogs (15) – Blueline loses experience and leadership with captain Justin Lemcke’s injury
  18. Saginaw Spirit (16) – Inconsistent to start the season, young group will need to improve
  19. Sudbury Wolves (18) – Five straight losses has the Wolves in familiar territory at the bottom of the East
  20. Guelph Storm (20) – Managed to pick up their first win of the season, but were also shut out for the third time in six games

Hamilton @ Niagara – another slow start for the IceDogs, should be among the East’s better teams but yet to show it consistently
Ottawa @ Windsor – 67’s have won four straight, a solid Spits team will be a good test

Friday October 16:
Peterborough @ Kingston – two of the hotter teams in the Eastern Conference face off
North Bay @ Sudbury – Battalion have won three straight while the Wolves have lost their last five
Erie @ Oshawa – rematch of last years OHL finals, both teams icing strong squads again this season

Saturday October 17:
Kitchener @ Barrie – Colts have allowed the seond fewest goals against in the OHL, Rangers have given up the third fewest

Sunday October 18:
Mississauga @ Sarnia – Sean Day and Jakob Chychrun face off in Sarnia

  • Alex DeBrincat scored four goals against Niagara, now has nine goals in two games against the IceDogs this season
  • Oshawa’s Jeremy Broduer recorder his fourth shutout of the season
  • Guelph was held off the scoreboard for the third time in six games
  • London’s Tyler Parsons is the eigth goalie in OHL history to get credited with a goal
  • Seven of Sarnia’s eight games have been decided by one goal, they’re 5-2-1
