The Windsor Spitfires made two separate trades Wednesday, parting ways with goaltender Michael Giugovaz and second year forward Daniil Vertiy

The Spits dealt Vertiy and Saginaw’s 10th round draft pick in 2016 to North Bay for the Battalion’s 6th round pick in 2016, and a 4th round pick in 2016 that originally belonged to Windsor. The Spits originally sent the pick to North Bay in the trade that brought Jamie Lewis to Windsor in September of 2014.

In a news release Windsor GM Warren Rychel says the trade was a product of being too deep up front, “Danny is a great kid and a talented player. We wish him the best. I’m sure he’ll do well with the young group they have up in North Bay.”

Rychel also traded goalie Michael Giugovaz to the Storm for Guelph’s 10th round pick in 2016.

This move came after Windsor had assigned goalie Mario Culina to the Soo Thunderbirds (NOJHL) and put Giugovaz on OHL waivers earlier in the week.

On the move, Rychel said “Ultimately, it came down to the fact we had three other goalies. We’re happy we could find him a place to finish out his OHL overage season.”
