AOHL This Week

Around The OHL This Week (November 17)

Week 8 Power Rankings:

  1. Erie Otters (2) – Had the best weekend they could have asked for, winning all 3 games, including wins over Kitchener and London
  2. Kitchener Rangers (1) – Picked up a nice win over Sarnia, and you can’t knock them too much for losing to Erie
  3. London Knights (3) – Offense sputtered at the wrong time against Erie, big game against Kitchener coming up on Friday
  4. Windsor Spitfires (4) – Top of this list isn’t terribly exciting, Windsor able to win big in Mississauga to keep up
  5. Ottawa 67’s (9) – On fire, scored 12 goals in their two weekend games, including a 6-3 drubbing of Niagara
  6. Owen Sound Attack (10) – Haven’t lost in regulation in their last 5 games, still cursed by their division
  7. Kingston Frontenacs (6) – Lost to the Petes, and then let Hamilton take them to overtime, but only Ottawa took advantage in the East
  8. Barrie Colts (5) – They beat Saginaw easily enough, but allowing 7 goals against in their game against an offensively challenged North Bay team?
  9. Sarnia Sting (8) – Boy, did Guelph come into their schedule at the right time. Followed 2 one-goal losses by beating the Storm 7-0
  10. North Bay Battalion (14) – Beating Sudbury must have given their scorers some confidence, as they went out and beat Barrie 7-3
  11. Niagara IceDogs (7) – Hot and cold nature of this team makes it hard to know if they will be a buyer or a seller at the deadline
  12. Mississauga Steelheads (11) – Their inconsistency has them comfortably settled in around this spot each week
  13. Peterborough Petes (16) Beat Kingston and Sudbury while other Eastern teams sputtered to catch up in the conference
  14. Oshawa Generals (12) – Tough losses to Erie and Niagara, the trade watch begins with Dal Colle and Mistele
  15. Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (15) – Beat Flint when they had to, and took Windsor to OT
  16. Flint Firebirds (17) – A pretty good response from the Firebirds. Nice win over Sarnia, then took the Greyhounds to overtime.
  17. Hamilton Bulldogs (18) – Outside of a 6-0 loss to Ottawa, it was a strong weekend for Hamilton
  18. Saginaw Spirit (13) – Looked as though they turned a corner, then promptly went 0-4 right after
  19. Sudbury Wolves (19) – Still on a long road to respectability, playing a little defence would go a long way to fixing that
  20. Guelph Storm (20) – They’ve been as bad without Nichols as we expected them to be

Biggest Rise: Ottawa/Owen Sound/North Bay (Up 4)
Biggest Drop: Saginaw (Down 5)

Games To Watch:

Thursday November 19th:
Kingston @ North Bay: A hot North Bay team can drag themselves back into the picture in the East with a win here

Friday November 20th:
Kitchener @ London: Two of the top teams potentially battle for the top spot in their division and conference
Owen Sound @ Sarnia: Another case of two teams who are close in the standings matching up

Sunday November 22nd:
Niagara @ Windsor: Niagara will likely be using this weekend to decide if they are a buyer or a seller, this game could go a long way to clearing up that picture
