Around The OHL This Week (January 26)

Week 18 Power Rankings:

  1. Erie Otters (1) – Underrated aspect of this team: have only allowed 116 goals, lowest number in the league
  2. London Knights (3) – Knights leading the league with 224 goals – a 43 goal lead over the next closest team. Suspensions from Sunday’s line brawl loom
  3. Kitchener Rangers (2) – Bounced back nicely after losing a heart-breaker to Erie, slowing losing ground to London and Erie though
  4. Kingston Frontenacs (4) – Very nearly jumped Kitchener in the standings, Dal Colle has taken them to another level. Running away with the East.
  5. Windsor Spitfires (6) – Another team propped up by trades, Lemieux has been a stud, with more than a goal per game
  6. Barrie Colts (7) – Sadowy another acquisition paying dividends, the Colts are 3-0-0-1 and building momentum
  7. Niagara IceDogs (8) – Got blown out, and are still a hot and cold team. They managed to beat Erie though, and that counts for a lot
  8. Sarnia Sting (5) – Got run over by London twice, and now could potentially be losing Konecny to suspension
  9. North Bay Battalion (9) – I can’t seem to look at Cam Dineen’s spot in the CSS Rankings without shaking my head. Team is firmly in the top 10, can they climb?
  10. Peterborough Petes (13) – The Matt Mancina show. His play has given the Petes more than just a chance to win, dominant for nearly a month now
  11. Mississauga Steelheads (10) – Had a rough week, but nobody below really passed them either. Keep an eye on Nic Hague. The 16 year old has been fantastic
  12. Ottawa 67’s (15) – Team has shown resilience, playing well despite deadline losses as well as the injury to Sasha Chmelevski
  13. Oshawa Generals (16) – Beat Hamilton and took Ottawa to a shootout. Nothing to write home about, but good enough to move them up
  14. Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (11) – Hard to decide between the number of teams struggling right now, SSM did manage to beat North Bay though
  15. Owen Sound Attack (12)Still not a very good team, but better than they’ve been playing lately
  16. Guelph Storm (17) – Only team of the bottom 13 to have a winning record over their past ten games. I don’t expect them to keep it up, but they’ve done well to get to this spot
  17. Saginaw Spirit (14) – Looked like they could have made a nice run to end the season but have come back down to earth
  18. Sudbury Wolves (18) – Beat SSM and gave North Bay a run, should be good after they spend every draft pick in the upcoming draft on defencemen
  19. Hamilton Bulldogs (20) – Nice win in Sarnia, and although they are losing…a lot…they’ve avoided really being blown out as well
  20. Flint Firebirds (19) – On a streak of 0-11-2-0. Blech
