As we expected in our first round preview of this series, it was incredibly close and Mike Amadio (LA) was a difference maker. North Bay ended up outlasting Peterborough over seven games, wrapping up the series with a 4-1 win at the Memorial Gardens, in front of 3,810.

The teams traded wins in games one and two in North Bay. The Battalion locked down their home ice defensively to win game one 2-1, before the Petes’ top trio of Eric Cornel (BUF), Hunter Garlent and Greg Betzold went to work in game two, putting up a pair of points each in a 5-3 Peterborough win. Game three back in the Liftlock City was a wild affair, which saw the Petes pull together to grind out a 7-6 overtime win and take a series lead. That only came after a Matthew Santos hat-trick and Amadio’s first three-point-night of the series (he had three points total through the first two games). Games four and five were very similar to game two, the defensive style of hockey Battalion fans have become accustomed to. Jake Smith shut-out the Petes 2-0 on the road in game four and then held Peterborough to just one goal in game five, with North Bay winning 2-1.
Back in Peterborough for game six, the Petes dug deep again, this time answering back to an Amadio natural hat-trick and scoring seven times in the final 24 minutes of play, to win 7-5 and force a deciding game. But game seven was a different story, where it was North Bay who came back from an early (but small) Peterborough lead and outdistanced itself thanks to two more goals and an assist from Amadio.
