It was David versus Goliath when the Owen Sound Attack stepped on to the ice at Budweiser Gardens to take on the London Knights. London not only led the league in goals for, but also had the lowest goals against total in the entire league during a dominant season. It was going to take a gargantuan effort for the Attack to win, and while they couldn’t pull off the upset, they gave the Knights more of a scare than anyone could have predicted.

The Attack played a strong Game 1, even outplaying the Knights, and led the game in shots. London was simply too good though, as their first goal opened the flood gates for the Knights to roll to a 4-1 win. Owen Sound struck back though, again outplaying the Knights, but this time Michael McNiven stood on his head. The Attack would steal Game 2 in London, winning 2-0 and bringing the series even before heading back to Owen Sound.

After losing at home, the Knights had woken up, and the top scoring offence in the league reappeared, scoring a combined 13 goals in the two games. Facing a 3-1 deficit, the Attack would have to head back to Bud Gardens.

In what was a wild Game 5, the Knights played like a team that knew it could clinch the series tonight, and the Attack played desperate. The two opposing forces clashed. trading goals until Owen Sound led 3-2 late in the third period. Despite there being over three minutes left in the third period, but with the Knights on the power play, Knights coach Dale Hunter chose to leave their net empty, essentially giving London a 6-on-4. The move paid off, with overager Aaron Berisha scoring from the top of the slot, sending the Game to overtime. Owen Sound, knowing that a loss would end their season, came out flying, and before the Knights had even registered a shot in the extra frame, Petrus Palmu wired a wrister past Tyler Parsons for the 4-3 OT win.

London wouldn’t allow Owen Sound to remain a threat though, as the Knights were able to close out the series with a dominating 5-2 victory, and giving the Knights a berth in the second round of the OHL Playoffs.
