Kitchener 6 – Sarnia 2 (KIT wins 4-2)
The Kitchener Rangers skated to a convincing 6-2 win Sunday to take their second round series over Sarnia in six games.
Anthony Salinitri opened the scoring in the late stages of the first period, but goals from Adam Mascherin and Greg Meireles gave the Rangers the 2-1 lead before the end of 20 minutes.
Adam Mascherin scored another in the second period to open up a two goal advantage heading into the final frame.
Goals from Givani Smith and Logan Brown helped Kitchener really open things up early in the third period.
Jordan Kyrou scored a powerplay goal but that is as close as the Sting would come. Givani Smith scored his second of the night to secure the 6-2 win for the Rangers.
The Rangers will play the winner of Sault Ste. Marie and Owen Sound in the Western Conference Finals.
Owen Sound 7 – Sault Ste. Marie 1 (series tied 3-3)
The Attack stayed alive in their second round series with a statement win on home ice Sunday.
Sault Ste Marie’s Barrett Hayton got the visitors on the board with a first period goal before Trenton Bourque evened up things for the homeside. In 215 regular season games, and 27 career playoff games, it’s the first goal Bourque has scored in his OHL career.
Owen Sound scored four times in the second and added a pair more in the third, en route to a convinsing 7-1 win.
Jonah Gadjovich, Kevin Hancock, Ethan Szypula, Brett McKenzie, Alan Lyszczarczyk, and Aidan Dudas scored for the Attack.
After taking over in relief in game five, Mack Guzda made his first career playoff start, making 24 saves in the win.
Game seven is Tuesday in Sault Ste. Marie.
