As the OHL trade deadline approaches, the Barrie Colts and Flint Firebirds completed a doozy of a deal.
The Firebirds acquired defenseman Tyler Tucker, a prospect with the St. Louis Blues, as well as forward Riley Piercey from Barrie.
“Tyler brings an elite veteran presence to our blue line while Riley adds skill and depth to our forwards,” said Firebirds Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Barclay Branch.
Tucker was selected 14th overall by the Colts in the 2016 OHL draft.
“When I first found out I was going to Flint and especially with [Riley] Piercey, I was pretty excited,” said Tucker. “I’ve heard plenty of great things about Flint. There’s a good core group of guys in the dressing room already and I’m happy to be part of it now. I’m excited for playoff hockey.”
The trade sees Flint part ways with Evan Vierling, the team’s second overall pick in the 2018 OHL draft, as well as Flint’s second round picks in the 2023 and 2024 drafts.
Vierling is eligible for the 2020 NHL draft.
Tucker and Piercey are expected to join the Firebirds Tuesday in time for Wednesday’s game in Saginaw.
The OHL Trade deadline is Friday, January 10th, the final day for over age players to be moved is Thursday, January 9th.
