The 2019-20 Ontario Hockey League season is officially over.

The Canadian Hockey League announced Monday that all league playoffs, as well as the Memorial Cup have been cancelled.

Officials with the league say they have been monitoring the latest updates and advice from all public health agencies and medical experts, and worked tirelessly to find a way for the season to be played.

A statement from the CHL Monday, says that just isn’t possible.

“Given the troubling state of our global climate and public welfare, there is still too much risk and uncertainty to move forward in good conscience.”

The Memorial Cup was scheduled to be held in Kelowna from May 22-31th.

It marks the first time in 102 years there will be no CHL champion.

As far as next year, the league says they expect the tournament to continue in May 2021, with an OHL-host yet to be determined.

The Oshawa Generals and Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds are finalist to host the 2021 tournament.
